Our smile is so much more than just our teeth. When we smile our whole face lights up, unfortunately as we get older we begin to see the effects of all those smiles as lines and creases. Muscle relaxing injections and filler scan help rejuvenate your smile and make it appear younger and brighter.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance which occurs naturally in our bodies. It holds water, hydrating and giving volume to our skin. As we get older the production of our natural hyaluronic acid diminishes and this contributes to the formation of lines and creases.
How Do They Work?
Hyaluronic acid gels are injected just below the skin in the required area, replenishing the lost volume and improving your looks by enhancing the facial profile. It can do this by smoothing out lines and wrinkles, as well as emphasising and filling out the lips.
Over time the hyaluronic acid gel is naturally absorbed by the body, and as such the treatment is not permanent. It is then your choice whether you choose to have further treatment to maintain the effect.
How Long Does The Treatment Last?
For lines creases and folds the treatment generally last 6-12 months before re-treatment is necessary. For treatment of the lips this is generally needed after about 6 months.
However this time is dependent on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age of patient, as well as the result required by the patient. Clinical experience suggests that touch-up and follow-up treatment will add to the duration
What Happens During Treatment?
The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. Dr Inman will ask you to use certain muscles of the face to observe how they work, and discuss the desired effect. Depending on the area to be treated the skin is numbed either by use of an aesthetic cream, are by an injection similar to that used for dental treatment.
The hyaluronic acid gel is then injected just below the skin in the required areas. The resulting increase in volume is immediate.
Typically one syringe of filler will be required, but occasionally for a more complete result more will be needed
Are There Any Side Effects?
Side effects of the treatment are rare. Occasionally the lips become swollen immediately after treatment. This is thought to be an immunological reaction and is typically gone within a week.
There can also be reactions due to the nature of the treatment, these include redness, swelling, pain itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. These are generally mild, and resolve after a few days.
After treatment patients should avoid exposure to intense heat (the sun, solariums) for a few days.
